Work History

"If you don't like how the table is set, turn over the table"

I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2011 with a B.S. in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science. The following fall, I started graduate school at Northwestern University, where I completed my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. I have worked consistently as a Speech-Language Pathologist since graduating in 2014. Below is a breakdown of my work history.

2014-2016 Speech-Language Pathologist, Chicago Public Schools

2016-2017 Speech-Language Pathologist, Chicago Speech and Reading Services

2017-2019 Speech-Language Pathologist, CareerStaff Unlimited, contract with Lancaster ISD

2018-Present Speech-Language Pathologist, Dallas Reading and Language Services

During my time as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), I have supervised interns and assistants, developed excellent verbal and written communication skills, created online cotent to drive web traffic, and developed and implemented new programs for my employers. I believe that my heart and my creativity can come together perfectly in the world of technology.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Primarily Backend Development with some Front End Experience. I started out working in Java and learning the basics of Spring. I currently primarily utitilze in C# and .NET to create backend APIs for a variety of projects. I have some experience working with relational databases. I also have some understanding of HTML, CSS, SASS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript.

Since January 2020. Right before the pandemic started, I bought "The Complete Java Certificate Course" on Udemy. Soon after, I enrolled in courses at Dallas College and began my journey towards enrollement in a CS Masters program. I am currently enrolled in CS Masters program at the University of Illinois Springfield and the self-paced "Complete .NET Coding Bootcamp" through Coder Foundry. I feel strongly that programming is a "learn through doing" pursuit. I have built a large number of small projects, which can be seen in the above "Projects" section and on my GitHub. I am also currently working on a the backend of an application that will help seniors and caregivers find services more efficiently.

A chance to make a bigger impact. The best part about being a Speech-Language Pathologist was making a difference in peoples' lives. Yet, somewhere along the line, I started to feel that I could be doing more. When I became interested in computer programming, I saw an opportunity to do more with my skills and ambition, while continuing to have a positive impact. I also saw an opportunity to engage in a career with more collaboration, creativity, and upward mobility.

When I'm not working or programming, I enjoy getting outside with my two dogs and working on real estate investment projects with my husband. I also love yoga, hanging out by the pool, listening to podcasts, reading, and practicing my hand lettering.
